Sacred Morning Mantras

Begin Each Day Aligned with Divine Energy

A Simple, Sacred Routine for Everyone - Kids, Parents & Grandparents!

What is Dinacharya?

In Sanatan Dharma, the morning routine (Dinacharya) begins the moment you open your eyes. There are specific mantras for each step of waking up to align your energy with the divine.

Follow these 4 simple steps every morning and feel the positive energy flow through your day! It takes less than 5 minutes and can be practiced by anyone at any age.

Looking at palms upon waking
1

Karadarshanam (कर दर्शनम्)

Upon Opening Your Eyes

What to Do:

Before looking at anything else, look at your palms. It is believed that different aspects of the Divine reside in your hands, which are the tools of your karma (actions).

For Kids: When you wake up, before touching your phone or anything, look at your hands. Your hands do amazing things every day - they help you write, play, eat, and hug! Three special goddesses live in your hands!
कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मीः करमध्ये सरस्वती।
करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम्॥
Karagre Vasate Lakshmi, Karamadhye Saraswati |
Karamule Tu Govindah, Prabhate Karadarshanam ||

Meaning: At the tips of the fingers resides Lakshmi (Wealth), in the center resides Saraswati (Knowledge), and at the base resides Govinda (Lord Vishnu). In the morning, I look at my palms.

Praying to Mother Earth
2

Kshama Prarthana (क्षमा प्रार्थना)

Before Stepping on the Floor

What to Do:

Since we are about to step on Mother Earth (Bhu-Devi) for the rest of the day, we ask for her forgiveness for the "disrespect" of touching her with our feet.

For Kids: Before jumping out of bed, say sorry to Mother Earth! She gives us food, water, and a place to play. Walking on her is like stepping on your mom's lap - we should ask permission first!
समुद्र वसने देवि पर्वत स्तन मण्डिते।
विष्णु पत्नि नमस्तुभ्यं पाद स्पर्शं क्षमस्व मे॥
Samudra Vasane Devi, Parvata Stana Mandite |
Vishnu Patni Namastubhyam, Pada Sparsham Kshamasva Me ||

Meaning: O Mother Earth, clothed by the oceans and adorned with mountains, the consort of Lord Vishnu, I bow to you. Please forgive me for touching you with my feet.

Sacred bathing ritual
3

Snana Mantra (स्नान मन्त्र)

While Bathing

What to Do:

This mantra is chanted to transform ordinary bathwater into the sacred waters of India's seven holy rivers, purifying the spirit as well as the body.

For Kids: When you take a bath, imagine you're swimming in seven magical rivers! This mantra invites all the holy rivers to join your bath and make you super clean - inside and outside!
गङ्गे च यमुने चैव गोदावरि सरस्वति।
नर्मदे सिन्धु कावेरि जलेऽस्मिन् सन्निधिं कुरु॥
Gange Cha Yamune Chaiva, Godavari Saraswati |
Narmade Sindhu Kaveri, Jale'asmin Sannidhim Kuru ||

Meaning: O Holy Rivers Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu, and Kaveri; may you please be present in this water.

Offering water to the Sun
4

Surya Arghya (सूर्य अर्घ्य)

Offering Water to the Sun

What to Do:

If you are awake at sunrise, offering water to the Sun is a core practice. The Sun gives us life, light, and energy. We thank him every morning.

For Kids: Go outside (or near a window) and offer water to the Sun! The Sun wakes us up, grows our food, and makes everything bright and cheerful. It's like saying "Good morning" to your best friend!
ॐ सूर्याय नमः
Om Suryaya Namaha

Meaning: Salutations to the Sun, the giver of life and light.

Advanced Option:

You can also chant the powerful Gayatri Mantra while offering water to the Sun:

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥
