Brahma Vaivarta Purana

The Brahma Vaivarta Purana focuses on the creative transformations (vaivarta) of Brahma and is primarily a Vaishnavite text centered on Krishna worship. It contains approximately 18,000 verses in four sections (khandas): Brahma Khanda, Prakriti Khanda, Ganesha Khanda, and Sri Krishna Janma Khanda. The text is notable for its elaborate descriptions of Radha-Krishna divine love, Goloka (Krishna's supreme abode), and the concept of Prakriti (cosmic nature) as the divine feminine principle. The Sri Krishna Janma Khanda provides a detailed account of Krishna's birth and early life.

The Brahma Vaivarta Purana is significant for elevating Radha to the status of the supreme feminine deity and establishing the Radha-Krishna tradition that profoundly influenced medieval devotional movements. It provides the theological foundation for the worship of Radha and Krishna together, which became central to Bengali Vaishnavism.

Four khandas cover Brahma's role in creation, the nature of Prakriti and her manifestations as various goddesses, the origin and worship of Ganesha, and the birth and childhood exploits of Krishna in Vrindavan with detailed descriptions of his divine pastimes with Radha and the gopis.
