Description
The Vishnu Sahasranama ('Thousand Names of Vishnu') is a devotional hymn containing 1,000 names of Lord Vishnu, found in the Anushasana Parva (Book 13) of the Mahabharata. It consists of 142 verses (shlokas) and was narrated by the grandsire Bhishma to Yudhishthira from his bed of arrows on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
Each name represents a divine attribute or aspect of Vishnu as the supreme being. The hymn begins with the invocation of Vishnu as Vishvam (the Universe itself) and progresses through names that describe his roles as creator, sustainer, and dissolver of the cosmos.

ஒவ்வொரு பெயரும் விஷ்ணுவின் ஒரு தெய்வீக பண்பை அல்லது அம்சத்தைக் குறிக்கிறது.
