Description
Akshardham is a Hindu temple complex in New Delhi that showcases millennia of Indian culture, spirituality, and architecture. Inspired by Yogiji Maharaj and created by Pramukh Swami Maharaj of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.
History
Inaugurated in 2005, the temple was built in just 5 years by 11,000 artisans. It holds a Guinness World Record as the World's Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple.
Architecture
Built entirely from Rajasthani pink sandstone and Italian Carrara marble without structural steel. Features 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 domes, 20,000 murtis, and a 3,000 kg golden murti of Swaminarayan.
Legends & Stories
The temple embodies the principles and teachings of Swaminarayan and celebrates 10,000 years of Indian culture through exhibitions, boat ride, and light and sound show.
How to Reach
Akshardham Metro Station (Blue Line) is adjacent. Located on NH-24 near the India-Nepal border. Taxis and buses available from all parts of Delhi.
