Description
Meenakshi Amman Temple is a historic Hindu temple located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Goddess Meenakshi (a form of Parvati) and Lord Sundareswarar (Shiva), it is a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture.
History
The temple has origins dating to the 6th century BCE. The present structure was largely rebuilt by the Nayak dynasty in the 16th-17th centuries. It was nominated as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Architecture
The temple complex covers 14 acres and has 14 gopurams (gateway towers), the tallest being 52 meters. It features the famous Hall of Thousand Pillars, intricate sculptures, and a golden lotus tank (Porthamarai Kulam).
Legends & Stories
According to legend, Goddess Meenakshi was born with three breasts, with the prophecy that the third would disappear upon meeting her future husband. When she met Lord Shiva, the third breast vanished.
How to Reach
Madurai has its own airport and a major railway junction. The temple is in the heart of the city, accessible by auto-rickshaw and bus from all parts.

मंदिर परिसर 14 एकड़ में फैला है और 14 गोपुरम हैं। सहस्र स्तंभ मंडप प्रसिद्ध है।
Legends & Stories
कथानुसार देवी मीनाक्षी तीन स्तनों के साथ जन्मी थीं। शिव से मिलने पर तीसरा स्तन लुप्त हो गया।

கோயிலின் வரலாறு கி.மு. 6ம் நூற்றாண்டு வரை செல்கிறது.
Architecture
கோயில் வளாகம் 14 ஏக்கரில் பரவி 14 கோபுரங்களைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. ஆயிரங்கால் மண்டபம் புகழ்பெற்றது.
Legends & Stories
புராணத்தின்படி மீனாட்சி தேவி மூன்று மார்பகங்களுடன் பிறந்தார். சிவபெருமானை சந்தித்தபோது மூன்றாவது மறைந்தது.
