Description
Ramanathaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on Rameswaram island in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga and one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The temple is famous for its magnificent corridors, considered the longest among all Hindu temples.
History
According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva here to atone for the sin of killing Ravana. The current structure was expanded by various rulers including the Pandya dynasty and Jaffna Kingdom rulers over several centuries.
Architecture
The temple is renowned for its 1,212-meter-long magnificent corridor, the longest of any Hindu temple. It has 36 theerthams (sacred water tanks) within the temple complex. The gopurams rise to impressive heights with intricate Dravidian sculptural work.
Legends & Stories
Lord Rama is believed to have worshipped Shiva here before building the bridge to Lanka. He asked Hanuman to bring a Shiva Lingam from the Himalayas, but when Hanuman was delayed, Sita made a lingam from sand, which is the main deity.
How to Reach
Nearest airport is Madurai (174 km). Rameswaram has its own railway station. Connected by Pamban Bridge to mainland. Bus services from Madurai and Chennai.

History
रामायण के अनुसार, भगवान राम ने रावण वध के पाप से मुक्ति के लिए यहाँ शिव की पूजा की थी।

मंदिर अपने 1,212 मीटर लंबे गलियारे के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। परिसर में 36 पवित्र कुंड हैं।
Legends & Stories
भगवान राम ने लंका जाने से पहले यहाँ शिव की पूजा की थी। सीता ने रेत से लिंग बनाया जो मुख्य देवता है।
