Description
Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines and is considered the most sacred among them as the lingam is believed to be Swayambhu (self-manifested). The temple is situated on the banks of the holy river Shipra.
History
The temple has ancient origins referenced in several Puranas. The present five-level structure was built by the Marathas in the 18th century. The famous Bhasma Aarti performed at dawn with sacred ash is unique to this temple.
Architecture
The temple has five levels, one of which is underground. The lingam in the sanctum is the only south-facing Jyotirlinga among all twelve. The temple complex includes temples of Ganesh, Kartikeya, and Parvati.
Legends & Stories
According to the Shiva Purana, a demon named Dushana terrorized the people of Ujjain. Lord Shiva emerged from the earth as Mahakal to destroy the demon and chose to reside here in the form of a Jyotirlinga.
How to Reach
Ujjain has its own railway station connected to major cities. Nearest airport is Indore (55 km). Well connected by road from Bhopal (190 km) and Indore.

मंदिर का उल्लेख कई पुराणों में मिलता है। वर्तमान पाँच मंजिला संरचना मराठों द्वारा 18वीं शताब्दी में बनाई गई थी।
Architecture
मंदिर पाँच स्तरों का है जिनमें से एक भूमिगत है। गर्भगृह का लिंग एकमात्र दक्षिणमुखी ज्योतिर्लिंग है।
Legends & Stories
शिव पुराण के अनुसार दूषण नामक राक्षस ने उज्जैन को आतंकित किया। भगवान शिव महाकाल रूप में प्रकट हुए।

Description
உஜ்ஜைனில் உள்ள மகாகாலேஸ்வரர் கோயில் பன்னிரண்டு ஜோதிர்லிங்கங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். இங்குள்ள லிங்கம் சுயம்பு என நம்பப்படுகிறது.
History
இக்கோயில் பல புராணங்களில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. தற்போதைய கட்டமைப்பு 18ம் நூற்றாண்டில் மராட்டியர்களால் கட்டப்பட்டது.
Architecture
கோயில் ஐந்து நிலைகளைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. கருவறையிலுள்ள லிங்கம் தெற்கு நோக்கிய ஒரே ஜோதிர்லிங்கமாகும்.
Legends & Stories
சிவ புராணத்தின்படி, தூஷண என்ற அரக்கன் உஜ்ஜைனியை அச்சுறுத்தினான். சிவபெருமான் மகாகால் வடிவில் தோன்றினார்.

உஜ்ஜைனில் சொந்த ரயில் நிலையம் உள்ளது. அருகிலுள்ள விமான நிலையம் இந்தூர் (55 கி.மீ).
