Description
Somnath Temple is the first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. Located on the western coast of Gujarat, it is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in India. The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt several times throughout history, symbolizing the resilience of faith.
History
The temple has a long history of destruction and reconstruction. It was first built in gold by Somraj, then in silver by Ravana, and in wood by Krishna. The present temple was reconstructed in 1951 under the guidance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel after the last destruction by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026 CE.
Architecture
The current temple is built in the Chalukya style of architecture, also known as Kailash Mahameru Prasad style. The temple stands majestically on the shore of the Arabian Sea with intricate carvings and a towering shikhara.
Legends & Stories
According to legend, the Moon God (Soma) built this temple in gold to honor Lord Shiva after being cursed by his father-in-law Daksha. Shiva blessed Soma here, and thus the temple is named Somnath (Lord of the Moon).

Nearest airport is Diu (63 km). Nearest railway station is Veraval (6 km). Well connected by road from Ahmedabad (400 km) and Rajkot (200 km).

History
इस मंदिर का विनाश और पुनर्निर्माण का लंबा इतिहास है। वर्तमान मंदिर 1951 में सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल के मार्गदर्शन में पुनर्निर्मित किया गया था।
Architecture
वर्तमान मंदिर चालुक्य शैली में बना है। मंदिर अरब सागर के तट पर भव्यता से खड़ा है।
Legends & Stories
पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार चंद्रदेव ने दक्ष के श्राप से मुक्त होने के बाद भगवान शिव के सम्मान में यह मंदिर बनवाया था।

சோம்நாத் கோயில் சிவபெருமானின் பன்னிரண்டு ஜோதிர்லிங்கங்களில் முதலாவது ஆகும். குஜராத்தின் மேற்கு கடற்கரையில் அமைந்துள்ள இது இந்தியாவின் புனிதமான யாத்திரைத் தலங்களில் ஒன்றாகும்.

இக்கோயில் பல முறை அழிக்கப்பட்டு மீண்டும் கட்டப்பட்ட நீண்ட வரலாற்றைக் கொண்டுள்ளது.

தற்போதைய கோயில் சாளுக்கிய பாணியில் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது.

புராணத்தின் படி, சந்திரன் தக்ஷனின் சாபத்திலிருந்து விடுபட்ட பிறகு சிவபெருமானுக்கு கௌரவமாக இக்கோயிலைக் கட்டினார்.
