Description
Modhera Sun Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to the Sun God, located in Modhera, Gujarat. No worship is offered here now, but it remains one of the finest examples of Solanki architecture.
History
Built by King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty in 1026 CE. The temple was designed so that the first rays of the rising sun would illuminate the sanctum during equinoxes.
Architecture
The temple complex has three components: Gudhamandapa (shrine hall), Sabhamandapa (assembly hall), and Surya Kund (stepped tank with 108 shrines). Intricate carvings depict scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Legends & Stories
The temple is aligned with the sun so that during the equinoxes, sunlight falls directly on the diamond placed on the Sun God idol. The solar alignment demonstrates advanced astronomical knowledge.

1026 இல் சோலங்கி வம்ச மன்னர் பீமதேவர் I ஆல் கட்டப்பட்டது.
