Description
Amarnath Cave is one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism, located at an altitude of 3,888 meters in Jammu & Kashmir. The cave houses a natural ice Shiva Lingam that forms and melts with the waxing and waning of the moon.
History
The cave has been a pilgrimage site for thousands of years, mentioned in ancient texts. The annual Amarnath Yatra is one of the most challenging and revered pilgrimages in India.
Architecture
The shrine is a natural limestone cave about 40 meters deep. The naturally formed ice stalagmite (Shiva Lingam) grows and shrinks with the lunar cycle, along with two smaller ice formations representing Parvati and Ganesha.
Legends & Stories
According to legend, this is the cave where Lord Shiva narrated the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati. A pair of pigeons overheard and became immortal, and are still spotted near the cave.
How to Reach
Trek from Pahalgam (46 km) or Baltal (14 km). Nearest airport is Srinagar (141 km). Helicopter service available from Pahalgam. Registration with SASB required.

प्राकृतिक चूना पत्थर की गुफा। प्राकृतिक रूप से बना बर्फ का शिव लिंग चंद्रमा के साथ बढ़ता-घटता है।

कथानुसार भगवान शिव ने इस गुफा में पार्वती को अमरत्व का रहस्य बताया था।
