Description
Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on Elephanta Island in Mumbai Harbour. The caves contain rock-cut temples primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva, featuring the famous Trimurti sculpture.
History
The caves date from between the 5th and 8th centuries CE. Named by the Portuguese who found a large stone elephant on the island. The caves were extensively damaged during Portuguese rule.
Architecture
The main cave (Cave 1) houses the iconic 6-meter-high Trimurti (three-faced Shiva) sculpture — one of the finest pieces of Indian sculpture. The cave temple features elaborately carved panels depicting various forms of Shiva.
Legends & Stories
The Trimurti represents Shiva as Creator (Brahma face), Preserver (Vishnu face), and Destroyer (Shiva face). The caves celebrate Shiva in his various aspects through magnificent sculptural narratives.
How to Reach
Ferry from Gateway of India, Mumbai (1 hour). Boats run from 9 AM to 3 PM. Nearest airport is Mumbai International. Nearest railway station is CST Mumbai.

History
गुफाएँ 5वीं-8वीं शताब्दी की हैं। पुर्तगालियों ने पत्थर के हाथी के कारण नाम दिया।

मुख्य गुफा में 6 मीटर ऊँची त्रिमूर्ति मूर्ति है।

त्रिमूर्ति शिव को सृष्टिकर्ता, पालनकर्ता और संहारकर्ता के रूप में दर्शाती है।
