Description
Saptashrungi Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, located on a hill with seven peaks (Sapta Shrunga) in the Sahyadri ranges near Nashik, Maharashtra. The goddess is in Mahishasuramardini form, slaying the buffalo demon.
History
The temple is of great antiquity. The hill has been a sacred site since ancient times. It is one of the 3.5 Shakti Peethas of Maharashtra.
Architecture
The temple is built into the rock face of the hill. Access involves climbing 472 steps. The idol is 18-armed and carved into the cave wall.
Festivals & Celebrations
Chaitra Navratri and Ashwin Navratri attract massive crowds. Lalita Panchami is especially significant.
Legends & Stories
The right arm of Goddess Sati fell here. The goddess resides on the seven peaks in the form of Mahishasuramardini. The Bhairava is Krodish.

Nearest airport is Nashik (50 km). Nearest railway station is Nashik Road (55 km). Buses from Nashik to Vani village at the base of the hill.
