Description
Kalighat Kali Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and one of the most famous temples in Kolkata, West Bengal. It is dedicated to Goddess Kali and is believed to be the place where the toes of the right foot of Sati fell.
History
The present temple was constructed in 1809 by Sabarna Roy Choudhury. The city of Calcutta (now Kolkata) derives its name from Kalighat.
Architecture
The temple is built in the traditional Bengali terracotta style with a distinctive curved roof. The main idol of Goddess Kali has three eyes and a golden tongue.
Legends & Stories
The toes of Sati's right foot are believed to have fallen here when Lord Vishnu dismembered her body. The temple is one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations for Shakti worshippers.

Located in Kolkata city. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is 18 km away. Kalighat Metro Station is nearby.
