Description
Badrinath Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in the town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand at an altitude of 3,133 meters. It is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites and one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu.
History
Established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th century. The temple has been rebuilt several times due to damage from avalanches. The Garhwal kings were patrons of the temple.
Architecture
The temple is built in a colorful facade with a small cupola-shaped roof topped by a gilded dome. The temple complex has 15 murtis with the primary one being of Lord Badrinarayan made of black Saligram stone.
Legends & Stories
According to legend, Lord Vishnu meditated here under a Badri tree (jujube). Lakshmi sheltered him from harsh weather in the form of a Badri tree, giving the place its name.

रंगीन मुखौटे वाला मंदिर स्वर्ण गुंबद से सुशोभित है।

कथानुसार भगवान विष्णु ने यहाँ बद्री वृक्ष के नीचे तपस्या की थी।
