Description
Bhimashankar Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas located in the Sahyadri Hills of the Western Ghats near Pune, Maharashtra. The temple is surrounded by dense forest, which is now part of the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary.
History
The current temple structure was built in the 13th century in Nagara style. The Peshwas and Nana Phadnavis contributed to the temple's renovation. The area is the source of the Bhima river.
Architecture
Built in Nagara style with old and new architecture. The ancient shrine is simple, while the sabhamandap was built by Nana Phadnavis in the 18th century. The Nandi bull faces the sanctum.
Legends & Stories
According to the Shiva Purana, Bhima, the son of Kumbhakarna, fought Lord Shiva to avenge his father's death. Shiva destroyed the demon and, at the request of the gods, took up residence here as Bhimashankar.

Nearest city is Pune (110 km). Road transport from Pune via Manchar. Trek of 3 km from base village. No direct rail or air connectivity.

History
वर्तमान संरचना 13वीं शताब्दी में नागर शैली में बनी। पेशवाओं और नाना फड़नवीस ने जीर्णोद्धार कराया।

नागर शैली। सभामंडप नाना फड़नवीस द्वारा 18वीं शताब्दी में निर्मित।

शिव पुराण के अनुसार कुम्भकर्ण पुत्र भीम ने शिव से युद्ध किया। शिव ने राक्षस का वध कर यहाँ निवास किया।

பீமாசங்கர் கோயில் பன்னிரண்டு ஜோதிர்லிங்கங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். புனேவுக்கு அருகில் மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலையில் அமைந்துள்ளது.

13ம் நூற்றாண்டில் நாகர பாணியில் கட்டப்பட்டது.
