Description
Devi Talab Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, located in Jalandhar, Punjab. The goddess Tripurmalini is worshipped here. The temple has a large sacred tank (talab) which gives it its name.
History
The temple has ancient origins associated with the demon king Jalandhar from whom the city gets its name. The sacred tank is believed to have healing properties.
Architecture
The temple complex includes a large sacred tank surrounded by smaller shrines. The main temple houses the Shakti goddess and there is a Shiva temple nearby.
Festivals & Celebrations
Navratri is the main festival with special pujas and jagrans. Baisakhi and Lohri are also celebrated.
Legends & Stories
The left breast of Goddess Sati fell here. The goddess is worshipped as Tripurmalini. The Bhairava is Bhisan. The city of Jalandhar is named after the demon king Jalandhar who was related to Lord Shiva.
How to Reach
Nearest airport is Amritsar (80 km) or Chandigarh (145 km). Jalandhar has multiple railway stations. Well connected by road from all Punjab cities.
