Description
Vishalakshi Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, located near Manikarnika Ghat in the holy city of Varanasi. Dedicated to Goddess Vishalakshi (the wide-eyed one), it is among the most revered Shakti temples in India.
History
The temple has ancient origins and is mentioned in Puranic texts. Located in Varanasi, one of the oldest living cities in the world, it has been a centre of Shakti worship for millennia.

A traditional North Indian temple near the ghats of the Ganges. The sanctum houses the deity Vishalakshi in a modest but deeply sacred setting.
Festivals & Celebrations
Navratri is the most important celebration. Maha Shivaratri and Diwali also see large gatherings.
Legends & Stories
The earrings (kundala) of Goddess Sati fell at this location. The Bhairava of this peetha is Kaal Bhairav, one of the most fearsome forms of Lord Shiva, who is also independently worshipped in Varanasi.
How to Reach
Varanasi has its own airport (Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, 25 km). Varanasi Junction railway station is 3 km. The temple is near Manikarnika Ghat.
